Falcons WR Calvin Ridley says Arthur Smith 'wants to win now'

August 8, 2021 by Falcons Wire Leave a Comment

On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons held an open practice at Mercedes-Benz Stadium that focused mostly on game scenarios mixed in with a bit of a scrimmage. After practice, Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley spoke with NFL Network analysts Colleen Wolfe and DeAngelo Hall.

Ridley was asked about the team’s mentality for this upcoming season and Arthur Smith’s plan to make everything purposefully hard.

“The whole program has changed,” said Ridley. “It’s definitely harder, for the better, though. “We got a new weight room, new strength coach, and coach Arthur, you know, he’s tough. He wants to win now and he’s on everybody and everyone.”

Hall, who spent fourteen years in the NFL, his first four being with the Falcons, then followed up by asking Ridley his mindset when embracing a new head coach. The Falcons receiver said it’s all about buying in.

“I’m a buy-in type of player and I believe in coach Arthur. He’s very, very smart and I just feel it. I can just see the stuff of what they’re saying and what we’re doing at practice. I can see that things are getting better. We’re looking better and stronger and I believe in their system,” Ridley told Hall.

Ridley had an offseason foot surgery but looks to be back at 100 percent thus far at training camp.
