Baker Mayfield rejuvenated his career with a strong 2023 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For Mayfield, the bounce back came at the perfect time. The former No. 1 overall pick is set to enter free agency, and may have set himself up for a solid payday.
The Buccaneers are said to want Mayfield back, but other teams will be interested in the veteran signal caller. According to the latest odds, another NFC South franchise is the favorite to sign Mayfield if Tampa doesn’t retain him.
The Atlanta Falcons (+400) have the best odds of signing Mayfield, according to BetOnline.ag. The Seattle Seahawks (+500) and Chicago Bears (+600) are next in line, followed by the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers at +700 and the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders sit at +800.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said this week that Mayfield is seeking “market value” for his next deal, whatever that may be.
The Bucs could use the franchise tag on Mayfield at roughly $35 million for 2024, but Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is the more likely candidate to be tagged.
In 17 games this season, Mayfield connected on 64.3 percent of his passes for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He went on to throw for 686 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in Tampa Bay’s two postseason contests.
