Kirk Cousins and his agent, Mike McCartney, are two of many people who are still stunned by what the Atlanta Falcons did on Thursday night.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel just spoke to McCartney, who confirmed that he and Cousins were notified that the Falcons were taking quarterback Michael Penix Jr. when they were on the clock. Cousins and McCartney had no clue it was going to happen before Thursday night.
It makes sense that both would be frustrated since Cousins just signed a four-year $180 million contract with the Falcons during free agency. He was expecting to be the starter during that time and not have to rely on anyone potentially passing him.
He’ll definitely be the starter for at least this season but who knows what happens after that.
Thamel is also reporting that Cousins and his camp are frustrated that the team didn’t use the pick to add a weapon for him this upcoming season.
They’ll likely do that with some of their other picks but it’ll still sting that they didn’t do it early in the first round.
Let’s see what happens during the rest of this draft and into training camp.
