Kirk Cousins Makes His Feelings On The Falcons Extremely Clear

When the Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft, everyone wondered what Kirk Cousins thought about the move. After all, he received a $180 million contract from the team earlier this year.

During an appearance on “Bussin’ With The Boys,” Cousins opened up about Atlanta’s bizarre decision to draft a quarterback in the first round.

“I think you’re reminded again, that there are things you control, and there’s a lot of things you don’t control,” Cousins said. “And so let’s deal in reality, you know, and recognize that fact and then be a steward, not an owner. So I just believe that I got to steward what comes my way and control what I can control, which is what a steward does but a steward doesn’t worry about that which they can’t control. An owner does.”

Even though Cousins isn’t in control of what the Falcons do from a personnel standpoint, he could lead the team by example on the field. That’s exactly what he plans to do.

Cousins made it clear on “Bussin’ With The Boys” that he wants to win a Super Bowl in Atlanta.

“We’re trying to win the Super Bowl and it’s hard enough,” Cousins said, via Pro Football Talk. “So let’s all be on the same page and let’s go try to win the Super Bowl.”

The Falcons have already made such a steep commitment to Cousins that he’ll be guaranteed the starting job for this season. Nothing is guaranteed past that though.

If Cousins wants to be the starting quarterback of the Falcons for years to come, he’ll need to play at a Pro Bowl level.
