After numerous reports of his frustration with the Falcons’ decision to draft a quarterback eighth overall, Kirk Cousins finally addressed the situation for the first time on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Cousins recalled the conversation he had with the team prior to their selection.
“I was at the team event at the stadium, was just driving back and they called me and said, ‘We’re going to take a quarterback here,’ and I’m like, ‘OK.’ It was pretty straightforward,” Cousins said. “Really if you know my story, this is more the norm of the journey.”
The veteran QB admitted that call from the Falcons reminded him of his time at Michigan State and when he was drafted behind Robert Griffin III in Washington.
Cousins was also asked if he plans to lead more by example or be more hands on with Penix’s development.
“I think it’s going to be it all,” the four-time Pro Bowler said. “I think it’s so important that the quarterback room is just working together to help one another succeed. And that’s the way it’s always been, that’s the way it always needs to be, no matter what the names are in the room.”
“We need to all be working together to help one another be the best we can be,” he concluded.
