The Atlanta Falcons have been heavily criticized the past two days for selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick. People can’t seem to understand why they’d take a quarterback after signing Kirk Cousins to a $180 million deal.
While the critics continue to bash the Falcons for drafting Penix, it seems like a franchise legend approves of the move.
Former Falcons wide receiver Roddy White revealed that he met Penix this Saturday. He had nothing but great things to say about the Washington product.
“Met Michael Penix Jr today was clean cool dude going to be great for us and the city,” White wrote on X. “Why we got to hear this nonsense about Kirk being blindsided RG was blindsided. We been picking in the top 10 the last 5 seasons cause we didn’t get a qb when Matt was about done lesson learned.”
White played for the Falcons his entire NFL career, recording 808 catches for 10,863 yards and 63 touchdowns. When he speaks, the fans in Atlanta listen.
Penix was introduced to the media in Atlanta on Friday. He told reporters that he had a conversation with Cousins on Thursday night
“Yes, he did reach out,” Penix said. “We had a very good conversation. He reached out last night. I’m going to keep it between me and him right now, but it was definitely a good conversation. I’m super excited to work with him. He said he’s the same with me.”
Penix will eventually get his chance to prove that he belongs in Atlanta.
