The Washington Commanders are receiving interest in a key defensive lineman ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
Montez is among the most prominent names potentially on the trade market. Washington reportedly received at least one offer for the edge rusher.
Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Atlanta Falcons proposed a third-round pick for Sweat.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero also said Sunday that Washington has an offer on the table for Sweat. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Commanders want a second-round pick for Sweat or Chase Young.
Sweat has 5.5 sacks this season, three of which he tallied in consecutive wins to start 2023. The 27-year-old forced two fumbles in a Week 1 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
The former first-round pick is in the fifth and final year of his rookie deal with Washington, which has dropped four of its last five games. That could compel the Commanders, who are 3-4 with with the NFL’s second-worst defense, to move Sweat by Tuesday.
Although the 4-3 Falcons aren’t significantly better, they lead a wide-open NFC South following a nail-biting win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They collectively have 13 sacks this season.
Sweat, who had one tackle in Washington’s Week 6 win over Atlanta, could bolster a Falcons defensive line led by veterans Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata, and Calais Campbell.
Florio previously reported that the Chicago Bears could pursue Young. The 24-year-old is enjoying his best season since his 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign with five sacks.
Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles could inform Washington’s decision of whether to sell before the trade deadline.
