Report: Former Falcons Fifth Rounder May Need “Fresh Start” – Trade Possible?

May 25, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending three seasons with the team, the Atlanta Falcons could trade running back Tyler Allgeier before the 2025 regular season. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the Falcons should trade Allgeier since his production hasn’t been the same in recent memory. Most of the backfield snaps are taken over by Bijan Robinson, and there’s not enough room for Allgeier to grow, so it might be better to trade him away to a team that could use his abilities and where he can shine. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former BYU product is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and it’s hard to compensate him if the Falcons aren’t even using him.

The running back had one of the best seasons, though, in 2022, where he was able to top 1,000-plus yards as a rookie. However, he could replicate those numbers where he has been slowly depleting. Bleacher Report thinks that Allgeier is being wasted, and since he has no incentive to sign an extension, he could join another team elsewhere, even as a potential starter. The Falcons could fish Allgeier this 2025 campaign to a new team, who may need a running back due to injuries or lack of consistency.

Don’t expect Allgeier to get a starting role anywhere else anytime soon, but these four teams could take a chance on him in a backup role.

Possible Destinations

Kansas City Chiefs

Isiah Pacheco was supposed to be on fire, but he’s sitting on it. Last season, he couldn’t stay healthy for the majority of the 2025 campaign and hasn’t been the same since his injury. Veteran Kareem Hunt could be cut before the season, so they could trade for a fresher talent like Allgeier, especially in giving some new life in the backend alongside Elijah Mitchell.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Ravens might need a new running back if Keaton Mitchell can’t be a capable backup for Derrick Henry. Despite signing his extension this offseason, the veteran needs all the help in the world to have fresh legs for the postseason. Allgeier may fill the hole as a reliable speedster to move the chains to better supply Lamar Jackson’s offense.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves running the football more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. While they have two adequate running backs in Najee Harris and 2025 first-round pick Omarion Hampton, it’s never a bad idea to find another answer. Harris will likely be a free agent after this season, so Allgeier could be a worthy backup behind Hampton if everything works out in the Los Angeles blueprint behind quarterback Justin Herbert.

Washington Commanders

However, the weakest unit on this offense is the running back department, and it’s hard to imagine that quarterback Jayden Daniels will rely on the passing attack much longer once teams figure out his style of play. Brian Robinson Jr. has a promising frame and ceiling, but no one has seen him break out just yet. Austin Ekeler is returning on a new deal, but it’s temporary.

The Commanders’ trading for another offensive piece could strengthen this roster even further.
