The NFL won’t conclude investigations into the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles before the 2024 NFL Draft.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league’s ongoing probe into tampering allegations isn’t expected to finish this week. That means neither team would lose any draft picks this year as punishment if found guilty.
During his introductory press conference, Kirk Cousins said he spoke to the Falcons’ head athletic trainer before the new NFL year officially began. The incidental admission sparked a league inquiry.
The Pro Bowl quarterback, who suffered a torn Achilles last year, signed a four-year, $180 million deal with Atlanta.
Meanwhile, Penn State head coach James Franklin may have gotten the Eagles in trouble when saying Saquon Barkley spoke to general manager Howie Roseman before the legal tampering period.
Barkley and the Eagles denied making any impermissible contact. The former New York Giants star signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with Philadelphia.
Schefter previously reported that the NFL could complete its investigations as early as this week. Sources told insiders that the Falcons are expected to face “more severe” punishment, which could include the loss of draft picks.
Two years ago, the NFL stripped the Miami Dolphins of a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton. Last year, the Eagles and Arizona Cardinals settled a tampering case involving the hiring of head coach Jonathan Gannon by agreeing to a trade involving picks.
