So the NBA Cup final is going to be between Giannis Antetokounmpo and one of two teams that are going to swear through media leaks that they are not interested in trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo for the next 12-18 months. – 7:20 PM

Hawks made 9 of 27 twos in the first half.
The problem? If you’re taking threes within the flow of the offense, as the Hawks are, you can set your transition defense.
Miss an 8-foot shot in the paint and Giannis is off to the races. – 5:39 PM
Eric Nehm @eric_nehm
Half: Bucks 55, Hawks 49
– Antetokounmpo 14pts/8reb/5ast/2blk
– Lillard 10pts/2reb/4ast/2stl
– Green 9pts (3-5 3pt)
– Portis 8pts/8reb
The Bucks were just 7-of-26 from 3 (26.9%) in the first half. They’re creating and taking enough, just need to hit more of them. – 5:38 PM
Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen
Vegas crowd counting off the time with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the line. It is like a playoff game in here. Well, that is. – 5:27 PM
Nate Duncan @NateDuncanNBA
Hawks haven’t been putting their centers on Giannis, instead putting them on the Bucks centers to provide help on him at the rim. Bucks centers should be able to get good looks from 3 if Giannis looks that way. – 5:20 PM
Nate Duncan @NateDuncanNBA
Brook Lopez and Giannis have been fantastic defending the basket today. Hawks are 4/18 in the paint. – 5:17 PM

Excellent work rate from Capela early, but finally ran out of gas after that PnR layup and Giannis was able to get to the rim with no help. – 4:50 PM

And the Bucks get out in transition and Giannis Antetokounmpo gets a close one to get scoring started in this one.

Probably safe to assume today we’ll see Bucks stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton click today on their signature lob dunk chemistry – the two stars break down that connection over some of their best dunks.

He doesn’t look the same.
The pairing with Giannis was clunky.
It’s all part of learning curve for Damian Lillard playing alongside Antetokounmpo:
“I want a chance to win. So why not do everything, figure out everything possible to see that happen?”

Here is the Bucks injury report for their NBA Cup Semifinal matchup vs. the Hawks on Saturday:

MarJon Beauchamp (Left Hamstring Tendinopathy)
Khris Middleton (Bilateral Ankle Surgery) – 7:17 PM

More on this storyline

Beyond the chance to achieve the rare distinction of leaving Las Vegas with more money than when they arrived, even players who have won a considerably more coveted championship can appreciate the experience. The NBA dressed up the event, including Friday’s practices and media day, with a setup that was a cross between All-Star events and the Finals and achieved a sense that just being in Las Vegas for Saturday’s games is evidence of success. “I overheard a couple players while we were walking in, and they said, ‘Oh, wow, this is real,’ ” Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “That’s how I felt last year. So it’s a good environment. I love it. I love playing against the best players, tough games, good environment.” -via Houston Chronicle / December 14, 2024
Doc Rivers has almost seen what the on-court chemistry between Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo looks like. After all, the Milwaukee Bucks head coach hasn’t had the pair together (let alone with Damian Lillard) for too many games since taking over the job on Jan. 29 last season. “It’s funny, I haven’t had him a lot since I’ve been here, but it’s amazing how − trying to find the right word − how adventuresome you become offensively and running stuff out of timeouts because he has the ball in his hands,” Rivers said. “And his relationship with Giannis, you can see right away. They didn’t connect in the Boston game. I think they had three lobs where those would have been lobs in normal circumstances but it was (Middleton’s) first game back. But they have an amazing connection. Him and Dame connected on two in the Brooklyn game. You can see that growing.” -via Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel / December 14, 2024
Brad Rowland: The Bucks are listing Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and MarJon Beauchamp as probable for Saturday’s game against the Hawks. -via Bluesky / December 13, 2024
