Spiderman returns!

Atlanta United announced today it has exercised their purchase option for winger Xande Silva from Dijon. The Portuguese forwards joins the club on a permanent move and has agreed to a two-year contract with the club with an option for the 2026 season.

“We’re excited to bring Xande back on a permanent transfer and look forward to him building off of his performances during the final stretch of the season,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He is a dynamic attacker who likes to take defenders on and can contribute goals and assists.”

Xande was a revelation for the Five Stripes since joining in the summer transfer window, amassing two goals and three assists in 10 appearances in the regular season. He also added two goals in the playoffs. His arrival helped rejuvenate the team’s attack as he added a much-needed dynamic element from the left wing.

It promises to be a busy offseason for the club as they have many holes to fill. Having Xande back on a permanent move will be a nice kickstart to the ongoing roster construction period. While it’s too early to tell where he’ll fit into the grand scheme of the team’s plans, he was a constant in Gonzalo Pineda’s lineups, starting eight times and coming off the bench just twice since arriving. Whether he’s a first-choice attacker or part of the rotation, he’ll certainly be an important piece to the puzzle for Atlanta United in 2024.

How are you feeling about this move? Happy to have Xande back? Give your thoughts below.
