Atlanta’s front office is making moves – some more unexpected than others
Well, that was a short stint at Atlanta United for standout Wake Forest defender Garrison Tubbs. The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports that Atlanta has traded the young center back to D.C. United for approximately $125k GAM with an extra $150k GAM in add-ons.
Atlanta United just picked up Tubbs on a homegrown contract prior to the MLS Superdraft, in which he was widely determined to be one of the most sought-after players. For a club with so many uncertainties at the center back position, the move is a bit of a head-scratcher, but Garth Lagerway’s war room during this offseason is sure to be a whirlwind of moves.
The news came just prior to Atlanta selecting goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert from the University of Connecticut with their first pick of the Superdraft, and only a day after reports surfaced that the Five Stripes are looking to sign defenders Jonathan Mensah and Stian Gregersen. For a brief moment, it seemed Garrison Tubbs would serve as backup option for Gonzalo Pineda as Noah Cobb and Efrain Morales receive more game time with the 2’s, but that certainly isn’t the case now.
