Atlanta’s front office is the third best in baseball according to a recent survey of executives by The Athletic.
The Atlanta Braves have the third best front office in Major League Baseball according to a survey by The Athletic of 40 MLB executives. Atlanta received three first-place votes and finished behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays.
Alex Anthopoulos took over as general manager in 2018 and all the Braves have done sense is win. Atlanta has six-straight NL East titles and the 2021 World Series championship under Anthopoulos’ tenure. Known as somewhat of a wheeler and dealer when he arrived, Anthopoulos showed patience and resisted trading any of the team’s young core. He locked most of that core up with longterm extensions. He has also shown that he isn’t afraid to make a trade by swinging deals for Matt Olson and Sean Murphy. Anthopoulos also has a reputation of identifying targets during the offseason and moving aggressively to secure them.
“Alex Anthopoulos knows what he wants and moves quickly in the offseason,” one executive said.
The Athletic story also mentioned that some executives are skeptical of Atlanta’s draft strategy with Dana Brown having left to take over as GM of the Astros. Ronit Shah is now heading up the Braves’ scouting department and helped make the calls for the 2023 Draft after Brown’s departure.
The Braves were the only NL East team to crack the Top 10 although the Philadelphia Phillies received votes. The New York Mets will likely move up this list in future seasons now that David Stearns is in charge of their baseball operations.
