Last week’s NFL Draft was an interesting one for Atlanta fans. The Falcons’ first-round selection of Michael Penix caught many by surprise. For Tech fans, though no Yellow Jackets were selected in the draft, that doesn’t mean it was the end of the road for some of their favorite Tech players and their NFL aspirations.
This article focuses on one of those dreams. In particular, former Yellow Jacket running back Dontae Smith. As the article points out, Smith received an invitation to a rookie minicamp with the New York Giants. For many, this is a chance to highlight their skills and secure a place on an NFL roster. Based on this PFF article, at least two Yellow Jackets have been signed as undrafted free agents. Those include tight ends Dylan Leonard and Luke Benson who signed with the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers, respectively.
Aside from Smith, former Yellow Jacket linebacker Paul Moala received a minicamp invitation from the Chicago Bears. Good luck to all of these former Yellow Jackets and others who look to continue their football journeys.
